Class Fee Assistance

The Priscilla R. Tyson Cultural Art Center and the Friends of the Cultural Arts Center offer scholarships and fee assistance to those demonstrating both financial need and creative potential. The City of Columbus believes that all students should have the opportunity to pursue their creative interests, whatever their financial means.

Class Fee Assistance may be awarded to a new or current student. Please read the information below to learn more before submitting an application.

Complete an Application

Submission Procedure

A completed application must be received at least seven calendar days prior to the beginning of registration. A calendar of due dates will be available online.

Review Procedure

The administrative staff (consisting of the PRTCAC Arts Administrator and Assistant Arts administrator) will meet one week prior to registration to review applicants’ packets and vote. FCAC board members are encouraged to attend the meeting. Per the results of the meeting vote, PRTCAC Arts Administrator has the authority to grant up to five scholarship awards for each review period.  Award information letters will go out one week several days prior to registration opening via email or a phone call.

Scholarship Decisions

Each scholarship application is evaluated by a PRTCAC panel whose decisions are based on a combination of available scholarship funds, the applicant’s stated financial need and the applicant’s completed application.

Sustainability

The center will fund up to five awards per class term for a maximum total of 30 scholarships granted per calendar year (providing these funds and the applications exist). Awards need not represent every category.

Mode of Granting

An award notification will be sent by email or phone one week before class begins, granting one eight‐week term class fee (up to $75) and associated lab fees with the stipulation it is used for a specific class (identified in the application) and with an expiration date 90 days from the date of issue. Recipients must contact Assistant Arts Administrator to register for their awarded class. Recipients may not register online for class.

Limitations and Liability

  • Award recipients may be responsible for all other expenses incurred with their class enrollment including class supplies.
  • A reasonable amount of supplies can be provided/funded if approved by the Assistant Administrator.
  • Discounted parking in a nearby lot is available during class hours at the rate of $3 for 3.5 hours. A code is provided to use at the kiosk.
